The future of a Wilko store in a Bucks shopping centre has been revealed after weeks of controversy and ongoing efforts to rescue the business from insolvency.
Administrators for Wilko have revealed the locations of 52 stores across the UK that will close next week after the company failed to secure a rescue deal, causing over 1,000 staff redundancies.
Despite concern about the future of the Wilko store in the Chilterns Shopping Centre in High Wycombe, it was not listed among the shops set for closure next week.
The High Wycombe branch may not be out of the woods yet, however, with administrators revealing today (September 6) that even more store closures may be necessary depending on the outcome of ongoing talks.
PwC was appointed to oversee Wilko's insolvency last month and remains in talks with parties interested in buying the remaining parts of the business.
The full list of upcoming closures comes just one day after retailer B&M bought up 51 other Wilko stores in a deal worth up to £13 million.
A staff member at the Wilko store inside the Chilterns Shopping Centre previously told the Free Press that they had "no idea" what the future of the branch looked like.
Edward Williams, joint administrator of Wilko, said today that in the absence of viable offers for the whole business, store closures and staff redundancies had become "necessary".
He added: "The loss of these stores will be felt not only by the team members who served them with such dedication, including through the uncertainty of recent weeks but also by the communities which they have been a part of."
