A car park and roadway have been closed after 'anti social behaviour' caused fire damage to a large tree in Bucks.

Fire and rescue services were called to Marlow last night after a large tree in Pound Lane car park was set alight.

Steven Broadbent, Cabinet Member for Transport at Buckinghamshire Council said the extent of the damage was still being investigated, adding that a security team has remained at the site to "deter any further anti-social behaviour".

He added: "Last night, there was fire damage caused to a large mature free in Marlow. The Fire Service attended and officers from the council have been on-site to assess what works may be needed.

"We recognise that Pound Lane car park is well used by customers but to ensure the safety of people in the area, we have closed a section of the car park and also a section of the road and footway along Pound Lane."

Mr Broadbent said the closure may be kept in place over the weekend but is dependent upon the conclusions of tree specialists who are due to provide a "clearer picture" of the tree's condition later today.

A spokesperson for Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said one appliance and crew from High Wycombe attended the scene, finding the tree well alight when they arrived.

The firefighters used a hose reel, a fog spike, a thermal imaging camera and a short extension ladder to help them tackle the blaze.
