A caravan that got stuck on Marlow Bridge reportedly held up traffic for nearly an hour.

A large caravan held up traffic for 45 minutes yesterday morning while attempting to cross Marlow Bridge.

One motorist, who snapped a photo of the caravan causing congestion on the 200-year-old structure, said police had to detach the caravan from a car and push it off the bridge.

A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said they received reports of the blockage at 10:55am on Thursday, August 17.

Officers helped to move the caravan, which had become stuck at one end of the bridge, and the situation was resolved by 11:40am.

Marlow Bridge has a long history of blockages and damage-inflicting incidents, thanks to its three-tone weight limit which is routinely broken by large vehicles.

Buckinghamshire Council installed bollards on the Grade-I listed bridge back in 2018, hoping to discourage HGVs and motorhomes by creating a narrow crossing space.

In March 2023, flexible alignment markers were added to the bollards, reportedly to help motorists navigate and align their vehicles to avoid collisions.

The move came shortly after the overnight closure of the bridge in January 2023 when a large motorhome breached the weight restrictions and became stuck between the bollards.

Other incidents in previous years include a holiday-goer racking up a bill of over £1000 after retaining sizeable damage to his new car while driving through the bollards, and a broken-down 37-tonne lorry leaving the bridge in need of repairs totalling £200,000.
