Michelin-star chef Tom Kerridge is facing backlash for charging £35 for a portion of fish and chips.
Tom Kerridge, who opened his first pub The Hand and Flowers in Marlow in 2005, came under fire in 2021 after charging £87 for a steak and again earlier this year for selling a luxury fish pie for £60.
The famed restauranteer is now facing fresh criticism for a £35 portion of fish and chips available at his chippie in the London department store Harrods.
Speaking to the Radio Times, Kerridge said he has "learnt to deal with" the backlash to his food prices.
"I'm seen as a man of the people, so when I put fish and chips on for £35, they shout at me for it being expensive but the people criticising me don't understand how it's priced.
"The fish in most chippies is frozen at sea in a big block a year ago then cut up and portioned. At Harrods, it's line-caught, day-boat turbot."
He also described the chips at Kerridge's Fish and Chips as specially sourced, hand cut and a component of a "bespoke dining" experience.
The chef recently shared a video of the meal on his Facebook page, describing it as: "Market Day Fish made with my light and crisp gluten free batter, served with triple cooked chips, Matson curry sauce, tartare sauce and pease pudding."
Facebook users commented on the appearance of the pricey fish, with a company called Premier Seafood Ltd writing: "Why is it that the posher the fish and chips the less chips you get? Let's get proper chip portions back."
Simon Etherington joked: "You can see the fish is very fresh, it's eaten most of the chips."
Lynne Bower added: "Come on Tom, that's a ridiculously small portion for the kind of money that's charged!"
In 2021, the award-winning TV personality responded to criticisms of the pricing at The Hand and Flowers, writing: "Those prices include everything. VAT and service. No additional service charge at all.
"I pay staff properly and treat their job as a professional career. Perhaps the real cost of dining should be addressed."
Tom Kerridge owns and runs three restaurants in Marlow, The Hand and Flowers, The Coach and The Butcher's Tap and Grill.
The Hand and Flowers and The Coach are both Michelin-star certified, with the former the only pub in the UK to be awarded two of the prestigious stars.
