A shop in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire has been given the second lowest possible hygiene rating, according to recent inspection records.
Sanmeet Convenience Store, located on 9 Mentmore Road, received an overall hygiene rating of 1, indicating that major improvements are necessary.
The inspection took place on May 25, 2023.
While the handling of food was deemed generally satisfactory, including aspects such as preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling, and storage, the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building were also considered satisfactory.
This category encompasses factors such as appropriate layout, ventilation, hand-washing facilities, and pest control.
However, there were notable concerns regarding the food safety officer's confidence in the establishment.
Aspects such as checks to ensure the safety of food being sold or served and the staff's knowledge about food safety were found to be in need of major improvement.
When compared to other establishments in the area, Sanmeet Convenience Store's low hygiene rating is not a common occurrence.
Only 0.6 per cent of establishments have a rating of 1, while the majority of establishments, 68.9 per cent, boast the highest rating of 5.
A small percentage, 3.2 per cent, are exempt from the rating system, and 6.3 per cent are still awaiting inspection.
Public health officials hope that this rating will prompt swift action by the store's management to address the areas in need of improvement and bring the establishment up to acceptable hygiene standards.
