A vehicle repair business based in Aylesbury has been named among the fastest growing in the UK for its growth rate of nearly 100% over the last three years.

Steer Automotive Group in Aylesbury has been named in the Sunday Times' list of the 100 UK businesses that have seen the fastest rates of growth in 2023 so far.

The automotive repairs centre was ranked 36 out of 100 businesses in the country for its impressive growth rate of 97.87% over the last three years.

The business, which was founded by Richard Steer, 58, at a small Aylesbury site in 2003, generated £164.8 million between March 2022 and March 2023.

Mr Steer has since expanded the Steer Group into a national network of 61 automobile shops, making it the UK's largest independent repair group.

Speaking to Bodyshop Magazine about being recognised by The Times, the founder said: "This prestigious accolade reflects our unwavering commitment to excellence and out remarkable growth trajectory.

"We are immensely proud of our dedicated teams whose hard work, passion and innovation have propelled us to this significant achievement.

"This recognition motivates us to continue delivering a measurably different customer experience and to set new benchmarks in the industry."

As of 2023, the Steer Automotive Group employs nearly 1,500 mechanics, technicians and support staff, beating out every other business on The Times' list in terms of employee numbers.

On the company's website, Mr Steer has laid out his vision for its future, which includes further expansion of its reach, an increase in repair capacity and the goal of reaching carbon zero.

Last September, the group opened a flagship site at the Sands Industrial Estate in High Wycombe, a new "environmentally conscious" branch specialising in the repair and restoration of luxury vehicle brands.

Undisclosed investment sums from private equity firms Chiltern Capital and Keyhaven Capital in 2021 enabled the business to repair 85,000 vehicles annually. In the same year, the group took home a record-breaking five wins at the British Bodyshop Awards, including for Bodyshop of the Year and Customer Excellence.

It has also expanded to include the Steer Academy and training centres, providing practical experience to automotive apprentices, 50 of whom are expected to join the scheme in the coming year.
