Appearing via video link from HMP Bullingdon at Aylesbury Crown Court on Wednesday, June 28, the 42-year-old father sobbed uncontrollably throughout his sentencing as the court listened to his crimes.
On Friday, April 14 this year, Ranjan, who was heavily drunk for a second consecutive day, asked his wife to get up a bank statement on her phone.
This was due to him applying for a job as a delivery driver at a local Domino’s Pizza branch.
As she was doing this, he approached her from behind and slapped the back of her head, suggesting that she was ‘hiding something’ from the way the complainant was holding the phone.
The incident happened moments before she left their apartment to attend a night shift at a Buckinghamshire hospital.

Upon her return the following morning, she prepared food for the children and Ranjan before going to sleep.
However, she was awoken just two hours later by her husband who demanded that she needed to leave the bed.
She refused, stating that rest was needed.
Ranjan, whilst intoxicated, then produced a vicious attack on his wife which involved punching and kicking her in the head, face and stomach.
The assault took place in front of their two children, aged nine and 12, with one of them pushing the 42-year-old into another room before running out of the flat for help.
The other stayed to be with their mother.

One child was then heard screaming ‘my father is about to kill my mother’ as they pleaded for Ranjan to stop.
Neighbours began to intervene after hearing the commotion, in what the court described as ‘distressing screams for help and begging’.
Once the police arrived 15 minutes later, Ranjan said, ‘please forgive me, it won’t happen again’, but provided no comment when officially interviewed by the authorities.
Thames Valley Police also confirmed that they smelt alcohol on his breath upon arriving at the scene.
During his sentencing, Ranjan cried throughout as his actions were read out to him through a Hindi interpreter, with images of his wife’s beaten face also being shown.

The attack left her with swelling and bruising across the left eye and lip.
Despite the attack, the complaintent denied the opportunity for a restraining order and claimed that Ranjan ‘is a good father and a loving husband when he is not drinking’, with the 42-year-old admitting to his addictions.
He had been in custody since his arrest in April, and was sentenced to 15 months in prison for one count of battery and one count of actual bodily harm.
Ranjan will be released on license halfway through his sentence.
