A stop and search order that will remain in place until this evening has helped police to seize a knife and drugs from potentially 'violent' suspects.

Thames Valley Police has extended section 60 order put in place across parts of Milton Keynes following “incidents involving knives” on Wednesday evening, June 21.

Although no one was injured during these incidents, Chief Inspector Euan Livingstone said knife-carrying individuals had been responsible for “violent incidents” on the city’s streets in the past.

As part of the force’s efforts to locate the individuals responsible for the incidents that took place on Wednesday, a police helicopter was also deployed last night to help locate and identify the suspects.

The section 60 order, which gives the police increased powers to carry out stop and searches, has helped officers to seize a knife and drugs from individuals since it was put in place on Wednesday.

The order will expire at 11:18pm tonight, June 23, and covers the area shown below.

The Chief Inspector said: “I’m disappointed that we are still seeing individuals carrying knives in our city. I remain committed to ending this violence and section 60 orders, like the one in place at the moment, help us to swiftly remove knives from the streets.

“Whilst I understand the concern that these incidents will cause amongst our community, it is important to note that our investigations do not show that there is a risk to the wider public.

“I know that I am not alone in wanting to see this violence removed from our city and once again want to thank local residents, businesses and organisations for their support and commitment in making a long-term change to knife crime in Milton Keynes.”
