A car blaze has shocked residents in a Buckinghamshire village.

The fire was reported shortly before 5pm on Friday June 16 on Chesham Lane in Chalfont St Peter.

An SUV had caught on fire, which spread to a nearby fence and tree.

One man and two women had managed to escape out of the car uninjured before the fire crews arrived, Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed.

Steph Thomas, who was passing by with her daughter, said it was “scary” seeing the fence catch on fire.

The smoke in the air was “thick,” forcing them to drive down a different road.

“The fire engine came quickly. We didn’t see it catch fire so not sure how that happened,” she added.

Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said the incident generated “multiple calls to Thames Valley Fire Control Service.”

“The car was 100 per cent damaged by the fire.

"Around 10 metres of the fence was damaged, and the tree was also affected,” the fire service said.

The fire crews from Gerrards Cross and Beaconsfield used one set of breathing apparatus, two hose reels and a thermal imaging camera to make the site safe.
