A RAPIST been jailed for eight years after being found guilty of raping a woman after a night out.
Craig Burnikell, 26, of St Dunstans, Coffee Hall, was sentenced on Tuesday, June 13 at Aylesbury Crown Court after being found guilty by a majority jury verdict of one count of rape, following a four-day trial.
On December 13, 2019, the victim was out in Milton Keynes with friends. The victim and Burnikell shared a taxi to Burnikell’s house, when the victim realised she had lost her belongings, so stayed the night.

The victim fell asleep and woke up as Burnikell raped her.
Burnikell was arrested on December 20, and was charged on February 18, 2021.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Kay O’Connor, of Milton Keynes CID, said: “I am pleased that Burnikell has been found guilty and been brought to justice.
“The victim has supported the investigation throughout and she should be highly commended for the bravery and resilience she has shown.
“Thames Valley Police is absolutely committed to tackling violence against women and girls.

“Burnikell will serve a substantial prison sentence as a result of his behaviour, and I hope that this conviction and sentence will serve as some solace to his victim.”
