Three year 7 students from a Buckinghamshire secondary school have been praised for helping an elderly lady who fell in a stream.
Sam, Adi and Eustace, who all attend the Mandeville Upper School in Aylesbury, saw the stricken woman in a row of bushes by Bear Brook in the afternoon of Wednesday, June 8.
The three friends were walking into the town centre to ‘chill’ after school, before they formed a human chain to pull the lady from the shrubbery.

Things then turned hairy when the woman in question slipped as she was being rescued and fell into the water.
Eustace said: “The three of us were walking into town by the river near the college and when we looked down, we saw an old lady.
“We don’t know what she was doing, but, it looked like she slipped and fell in the bushes.
“We saw her, so Adi grabbed her hand, I grabbed Adi’s hand and Sam grabbed onto me.
“We tried to get her out but she kind of fell into the water, so Adi jumped in and grabbed her.
“This was when other people saw and got involved.”

When asked why they didn’t call the emergency services when they saw the person, Sam explained: “We didn’t call 999 because we thought it would be quicker to help.
"If we broke the chain, we all would have fallen in and we knew that once we were there helping the lady, we knew we couldn’t go until she was out.”
Adi added: “There were a few people near the Floyd [Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School] who helped after when we got her out, but we didn’t shout for help as people came over.

“We were all shaken and scared because we thought she had injured herself quite badly, especially when we saw a cut on her neck.
“But we’re doing all ok.”
Headteacher Matthew Larminie added: “I’m really proud that our students were able to help a member of the public.
“Their actions embody our school values through kindness and helping the community.

“We have got programmes in place to help children react in these sorts of situations which focus on life skills and real-life events.”
The students will be awarded by the school before the end of the current academic year.
