A town carnival has celebrated its 50th anniversary in Buckinghamshire with a record number of schools. 

Schools of Chesham Carnival wowed again with a record 14 schools on one of the hottest days yet this year. 

People flocked to the roadsides to welcome the procession before enjoying the stalls and entertainment in Lowndes Park.

The chair and trustee of Schools of Chesham Carnival Committee Sally Hills said they “couldn’t have had better weather” with temperatures reaching 30C.

She said: “Blue skies and sunshine is what you want for a successful procession and day in Lowndes Park!

“This was the 50th anniversary of Carnival and we had more schools than ever before take part, including Heritage House Special School and Lee Common Infant School, making a total of 14 schools this year.

“The Schools of Chesham Carnival is a charity, run entirely by volunteers (20 of us this year!) who give up our free time to raise money for our children's schools.”

Waterside school won the best in show for third year in a row.

The first winner for their lorry was Newtown, followed by Chartridge School and Thomas Harding School on second and third place.

Brushwood school won the first award for walking, followed by Chesham Bois and Little Missenden Schools.

The deputy mayor’s award went to Heritage House, Waitrose Award to Chesham in Bloom and the sponsors’ award to Ley Hill school.

Ivingswood, Hawridge & Cholesbury, Elmtree, Chenies and Lee Common schools were highly commended.
