A new road safety petition is calling for measures to curb speeding at a ‘dangerous’ hotspot in Buckinghamshire.

Residents in High Wycombe are urging Buckinghamshire Council to tackle road safety concerns at the junction of West End Road and West End Street.

The petition, which launched on May 12, comes after reports of “excessive speeding” and rat-running the junction “unsafe” junction.

The petitioners said: “The junction of West End Road and West End Street is the site of repeated collisions, two this month alone. These have been so impactful that cars have rebounded onto the pavements and cracked the walls of nearby dwellings.

“We believe the issue is due to poor visibility and excessive speeding, with individuals using West End Road as a fast cut through and cars speeding down West End Street.”

It said it was only “a matter of time” before a serious crash would seriously injure or kill a pedestrian, many who are families and shoppers.

They said the council should restrict speed, improve signage and close access from West End Road to Desborough Avenue to “improve road safety and quality of live for the residents of West End Road.”

The traffic calming measures could help give the road “back to us and our families, stopping the noisy and dangerous speeding and preventing further damage to homes, cars or people.”

The online petition runs until June 9 before it will be considered by the High Wycombe Community Board meeting on July 17.
