A TEENAGE mother who overdosed her baby on paracetamol has been convicted of manslaughter.
Ellie Jacobs, aged 19, of Moor Road, Rushden, Northamptonshire, was found guilty of the events which led to baby Archie's death on Friday, June 5, 2020.
The court heard how emergency services received a 999 call regarding the cardiac arrest of a baby at Whitfield Road, Biddlesden, North Buckinghamshire just after 3pm that day.
The baby, five-week-old Archie Jacobs, was taken to hospital where he sadly died.
A post-mortem investigation found that the cause of Archie’s death was acute paracetamol toxicity.
His mother Ellie Jacobs was arrested in connection with the death in October 2022 and charged with murder on October 27 last year.
Detective Chief Inspector, Will Crowther of the Major Crime Unit, said: “This is a very sad case, where a five-week-old boy lost his life.
“I am pleased that Ellie Jacobs finally accepted responsibility for causing Archie’s death and for the significant injuries to Archie which he received in the days leading up to his death.
“I am hoping this guilty plea will help the rest of Archie’s family move forward following these tragic circumstances.”
On Tuesday, May 9, at Luton Crown Court Ellie Jacobs pleaded guilty to the manslaughter by unlawful act of Archie Jacobs and child cruelty, which Thames Valley Police have accepted.
Ellie Jacobs is due to be sentenced at the same court on May 24.
Ellie Jacobs was 16 when she gave birth to Archie and her mother Sarah Jacobs helped look after Archie, but she was killed in a road crash on May 10, 2020.
Christopher Mattin, of Dairy Grounds, Kings Sutton, Oxfordshire, had been driving at 91mph along a 30mph stretch of Stowe Avenue, near Buckingham, when he lost control and crashed into a tree.
Sarah Jacobs, Mattin's girlfriend and passenger, died almost immediately in the impact.
