A dog walker 'ran away' after spotting two men engaged in a sexual act in a Bucks woodland.
The Hills Wood area of the larger Hodgemoor Woodland, straddling the towns of Chalfont St Giles and Coleshill, has gained a reputation in recent months as a 'gay cruising hotspot'.
Just off the A355 between Amersham and Beaconsfield, Hills Wood has become notorious for casual sex, advertised on one website as a prime spot for "gay cruising in Buckinghamshire" and by another, as somewhere "hot, up-for-it guys of all ages visit for discreet fun".
Last Friday, April 28, a woman walking her dog along Bottrells Lane in Chalfont St Giles saw two men on top of one another engaged in "full sex" in the bushes, prompting her to run from the scene.
According to a Thames Valley Police report, a similar incident took place on February 22, when a woman and teenager on their way to the Hodgemoor Woods bike park, saw two men leaving a bush and "adjusting their clothing".
The Coleshill and Chalfont St Giles parish councils joined forces last weekend in a litter pick to clean up the waste discarded by people using the woods for illicit activities.
Lynda Jackson, Coleshill council clerk, said 30 volunteers attended the litter pick and worked hard filling bin bags in Hills Wood for an hour and a half on Saturday, April 29.
"Much of the litter collected was from the 'cruising' activities that have been happening in the woods. Some hedgerows have been destroyed and areas of the woods are littered with toilet paper and wipes.
"Previously, one litter picker came across a rolled-up mattress and toilet rolls strung up between shrubs.
"Used condoms, Durex packets and gels are also regularly dropped."
The two councils have requested a greater police presence in the area, with patrols to discourage unsavoury visitors and signage to ward off curious passersby.
They are also campaigning for Forestry England to plant hedges along the layby from the A355 road to deter people from jumping out of their cars and going directly into the woods.
Marcus Bicknell, voluntary Forest Warden for Forestry England and chairman of the Hodgemoor Riding Association said he too was in favour of explicit signage in the area directly prohibiting sexual acts in the woodland.
