NOISE and public safety fears have prompted a council to object to a peri peri chicken takeaway’s bid for longer opening hours.
The Grillbox Peri Peri in Dashwood Avenue, High Wycombe, wants to serve customers until 3am every day as opposed to 11pm, its current closing hours.
It originally wanted to stay open until 4am, seven days a week, but following an objection from Thames Valley Police, it shortened its request by one hour.
However, this didn’t quash concerns raised by Bucks Council, in its capacity as a licensing authority, and has triggered a virtual licensing sub-committee for councillors to decide the takeaway’s fate.

Principal licensing officer Simon Gallacher was concerned about the noise and public safety impact the extra opening hours could have on nearby neighbours.
He criticised the owners of the takeaway for not having ‘robust control measures in place’ to ease his concerns.
For example, Mr Gallacher said the application ‘shows no items’ of safety equipment, such as fire extinguishers, or does not elaborate on how it will tackle noise other than to say it will ‘make sure no one does anything outside the shop to cause a nuisance’.
He wrote: “It is important that adequate safeguards are in place to ensure the licensing objectives are not adversely affected by activity associated with the provision of licensable activities.

“These safeguards include robust operating schedules, with appropriate conditions and licensed hours.
“Unfortunately, I believe the applicant has so far failed to adequately address this in their application as submitted.”
The sub-committee takes place on Tuesday, May 9.
