A FIRST aider from High Wycombe is taking part in his first-ever marathon today raising money for a very worthy local cause.
Faisal Mahmood, a business owner of FM First Aid Training, will be running the 26.2 mile course today in aid of One Can Trust.
He's hoping to raise as much money as possible to help the charity help feed families across Buckinghamshire.
Faisal said: "I have decided to help raise funds for One Can Trust (Food Bank) who do such an amazing job week in and week out to help feed so many families in the local community.
"The number of clients that they are supporting remains high, and therefore rely on the generous donations of the community to keep serving those in need.
"I want to point out that I actually got a place in the ballot and wasn’t required to raise funds for a charity but felt it was important to do my bit for the local community."
Faisal has exceeded his target by raising £747 and counting.
One Can Trust revealed what it costs to feed a medium-large sized family.
Jo Belshaw, Operations Manager at One Can Trust explained, "A weekly fruit, veg and eggs bag for a medium-large sized family costs approximately £11.
"Assume 30 per cent of clients households have a medium-large sized family, the yearly cost of a year's worth of fruit, veg and eggs for the above families is a staggering £60,060."
Faisal's family and friends have left him kind messages of support ahead of the marathon today.
Suraya wrote on his Go Fund Me page: "Great cause . You should be proud of yourself . You are a great role model . Wish you the best of luck.
Shehnaz & Ayaan said: "Good luck and great work, proud of you."
