A Buckinghamshire reverend has announced he will leave the Church of England after it was decided the church could begin blessing same-sex marriages.

Reverend Dan Beesley of Chalfont St Giles posted a video to YouTube on Friday, March 24 stating "I have come to the decision. I will be leaving the Church of England", saying the church is "tearing itself apart".

He is the Vicar at Chalfont St Giles Parish Church on the high street in Chalfont St Giles.

Currently, the church does not bless same-sex marriages. However, a historic vote by the Church of England priests and the governing body has stated churches will be permitted to bless the civil marriages of same-sex couples.

The first blessings could be seen this summer.

Individual churches will be encouraged to state clearly whether they will offer blessings.

Rev Beesley said: "I have written to my bishops about this and explained where I am.

"In the Church of England going forward, we are going to have this divide.

"Churches that will do same-sex blessings and churches that won't do same-sex blessings."

Reverend Dan speaks about how he feels God's call and guidance as to where to go.

He said: "If God wants me to go to a church which does do same-sex blessings - I cannot as a matter of consciousness do that."

"The church is tearing itself apart nationally, but also locally.

"A house that is divided against itself cannot stand."

However, he goes on to say "I am not leaving this current position anytime soon."

It is inferred that Rev Beesley will remain in his post at Chalfont St Giles Parish Church.
