A piemaker in Buckinghamshire has beaten almost 1,000 rivals in the British Pie Awards.
The Bell Hotel and Pie Shop in Winslow celebrated a triple win in this year’s British Pie Awards, which celebrate both traditional and whacky pies from across the country.
The piemaker took home the best Beef and Ale Pie, best Beef and Cheese, and best Chicken With Other Meat pie categories after standing out among 900 entries across 23 categories.
Chairman of the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie Association and host of the awards Matthew O’Callaghan said: “We are always highly encouraged to see the nation’s love of pies at these annual awards, and this year there has been a huge level of excitement and creativity."
"On Wednesday we had the pleasure of enjoying some spectacular pies, and The Bell Hotel & Pie Ship has overcome exceptionally stiff competition for best Beef and Ale, Beef and Cheese and Chicken and Other Meat Pies. These awards celebrate the skill of British piemakers across the nation, so I’d like to say a particular congratulations to them for this success.”

The Winslow-based Bell Pie Shop impressed the judges with their Steak and Guinness Pie, Steak and Stilton Pie and Chicken and Gammon Pie.
Judges of the competition held in the village of Melton Mowbray welcomed old favourite flavours and newcomers, including vegan and gluten free pies.
The pie awards entries have reflected the rising popularity of vegetarian and vegan foods in recent years.
However, this year meat-based pie entries dominated the top four classes for the first time since 2019, with Beef and Any Flavour topping the entry rankings.
This year’s unforgettable pies included Marmite and Cheese mix, Balti Pies, Vindaloo Pies, Kebab Pies and even Baldy’s ‘Nearly As Good As Mama Joan's Lasagne Pie’.
