Here is what we know about the bomb scare that led to the police shutdown and an arrest of a man in High Wycombe.

Several police vehicles and a bomb disposal unit rushed to High Wycombe railway station on Amersham Hill A404 yesterday afternoon (March 14).

A concerned member of the public had raised the alarm, which led to the large-scale emergency response.

Traffic was diverted and train and bus services were delayed as the Amersham Hill railway bridge was sealed off by the police.

Police officers closed off Amersham Hill from Totteridge Road to Castle Street, including High Wycombe railway station.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit vehicle parked near the train station’s taxi rank.

A Bucks Free Press reporter was at the train station and witnessed how the bomb squad unloaded the truck at around 1.30pm, including what appeared to be a bomb disposal robot.

Later police officers arrested a 19-year-old man on suspicion of possession of explosive material for an unlawful purpose.

He is currently held in police custody, Thames Valley Police confirmed.

Police Commander for South Buckinghamshire Superintendent Emma Burroughs commented during the incident: “I would like to reassure residents and visitors to High Wycombe that Thames Valley Police and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit are at the scene and managing the incident.”

Chiltern Railways trains and local buses were affected with trains experiencing delays of up to 60 minutes until the incident cleared.

Pedestrians and motorists were told to avoid the area while the police and bomb squad teams carried out their work.
