Thousands of pounds was raised for the Alzheimer’s Society thanks to a village pub in central Buckinghamshire.
Each year, the Bell in Chearsley promote a charity by asking customers to leave surplus change in whisky bottles on their bar.
However, after deciding to choose the Alzheimer’s Society for their cause of 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic and its subsequent lockdowns meant donations to the charity were non-existent.
After three shutdowns across 13 months, the pub decided to keep raising funds until the start of this year to make sure that the cause did not miss out.

Conservative MP for Buckingham, Greg Smyth, who lives in the village, and was present at the official counting on February 26 told the Free Press: “The Bell is a fantastic pub as it’s not just a boozer, it does a lot for the community and charitable causes.
“The soul of every village is usually down at the pub as this is where everyone goes and Chearsly is alive and kicking down to this pub.
“This is also a charity close to my heart as my wife’s granny passed away from Alzheimer’s.
“So it’s great to see what they have done.”
Celebrity guest, Timmy Mallett, also added: “The generosity has been incredible.
“Seeing everyone here is fantastic and the fact that we’ve got many bottles full of five and £10 notes, along with numerous coins, shows that people care.
