THE AMBASSADOR of Costa Rica will visit High Wycombe today to celebrate Fairtrade.
The Highcrest Academy in High Wycombe is hosting a celebration of Fairtrade between High Wycombe and Grecia, a Fairtrade community in Costa Rica.
High Wycombe mayor Arif Hussain will unveil a plaque with His Excellency Rafael Ortiz Fabrega, the ambassador for Costa Rica, during the Fairtrade Fortnight event organised by High Wycombe for Fairtrade steering group.
Other guests include RoastLab micro coffee roastery based in Gerrards Cross, High Wycombe fairtrade campaigners and councillors.
High Wycombe was awarded fairtrade status in August 2014 following a five-year campaign by the steering group.
The town’s fairtrade group aims to retain and strengthen the status.
Fairtrade Fortnight 2023 is celebrated between February 27 and March 12.
The global Fairtrade Foundation works with low paid farmers and workers to improve their living standards.

Products that meet the international Fairtrade standard are given a consumer label to the product has been certified to offer better price for farmers.
A total of 47 percent of all fairtrade farmers worldwide produce coffee, Fairtrade Foundation said.
