Police have been quick to reassure residents there is no concern after hundreds reported a 'loud bang' right across the Thames Valley region and beyond.
Thames Valley Police confirmed it had "received reports of a loud bang".
But a spokesman for the force said there was no indication of it being an explosion.
He said: "We have received reports of a loud bang. However, there is nothing to suggest that there has been an explosion."
The 'huge bang' appears to have been heard across several regions shortly after midday, with people mainly reporting it across Oxfordshire areas however reports suggesting it was heard in Bucks and Berks too.
People taking to social media to query the huge boom largely suggest the noise was heard in areas close to the Oxfordshire border such as Winslow in North Bucks, and Dadford in Buckingham. However, others have reported hearing it as far away as Reading and Wokingham.
The mystery sound was also heard further north, and a statement from Leicestershire Police added: "We have received numerous calls in relation to a large explosion sound heard from various parts of the city and county.
"We like to reassure you that there is no concern however thank you for your immediate response to us."
