WYCOMBE'S Citizens Advice branch has responded to concerns about the health implications of mould in rented properties.
Head of Services Craig Glynn has issued advice on what to do if residents find mould or damp in their rented homes and how best to deal with it.
He has also seen an "increase in the number of clients" coming to the branch with issues of damp.
This has heightened during the recent cold weather.
The Bucks advisor said: "With the cold weather we have seen an increase in the number of clients who are coming to us with issues of damp.

"There can be a number of reasons for damp and mould but what is important is that action is taken. This may be that repairs are needed- and your landlord would likely be responsible for these. Or it could be that your home needs to be kept better heated and ventilated.
"This is of course a huge problem for many of us given the cost-of-living crisis and rise of energy bills. If this is the case, it is possible that people may be eligible for help to insulate and heat their homes".
"You should always take advice before you consider withholding rent, we understand why you may wish to do this, but if done without the correct process in place you can leave yourself open to financial issues. Please talk to someone first if you are thinking about this".
Nationally, more than half of private renters in England – including 1.6 million children – are living in excessively cold, damp or mouldy homes, a survey by Citizens Advice suggests.
Some 2.7 million households are struggling with the poor living conditions brought on by a combination of high energy bills and a lack of insulation, the charity found.
The problem is especially bad in the least energy-efficient homes, with private tenants being 73% more likely to be living with damp if they are in a property with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D-G rather than A-C.
Camilla Smith, Communications Officer for the charity said: "There is information on our website that helps people work out the type of damp they have and who is responsible for it and what can be done.
"There is also information on what can be done if a landlord is not providing the help they should as well as how to find out about possible grants and other ways people can get assistance in this area.
"Of course, if anyone is still unsure then by all means send us an email using our contact us form on our website and one of our volunteer advisers will be happy to get back in touch with you to help you further".
Citizens Advice Buckinghamshire is an independent charity forming part of the national network in England and Wales.
