Wycombe Wanderers have confirmed the death of former manager and chairman, Brain Lee, just two days after the funeral of his wife of 65 years.

The 86-year-old passed away in the early hours of Sunday, February 12 at Wexham Park Hospital in Slough, just two weeks short of his 87th birthday.

A man who built the foundations for the Chairboys’ current success, Lee was appointed manager of the club in August 1969, and led the side to four Isthmian League titles in four years during the 1970s.

After leaving his post in July 1976, he took up the position of chairman and was instrumental in Wycombe’s relocation from Loakes Park to Adams Park in 1990.

He was also one of the key factors in bringing Martin O’Neill to Wycombe as manager – a decision that was met with great success as Wanderers achieved Football League status in 1993.

Ivor Beeks, who followed Lee as chairman and is now club president, said: “He was the man who got me involved in Wycombe Wanderers.

“He flew out to Portugal in 1987 when I was on a golfing holiday and got me hooked.

“His work on the move to Adams Park is a wonderful legacy alone without all the other fantastic achievements.”

His son, Bryn, added: “It goes without saying how much Wycombe, its players, officials, and everyone meant to him.

“When he heard the match score yesterday, he gave a fist pump.”
