HIGH Wycombe has been named as one of the worst places to live in England and we wholeheartedly disagree.
Our lovely hometown ranked as the 11th worst place to live in the country according to a new survey by the satirical website iLiveHere.
Buckinghamshire Council branded the survey as “disheartening and unscientific” and defended the town as “a great place with an exciting future” ahead.
The site has harshly critiqued the town for being a ‘run down’ and a hotspot for crime.
One review bashed areas such as Downley and Castlefield as being full of litter and not very welcoming places to live in.
The council dispelled these myths and said High Wycombe is among the safest large towns in England.
There are gorgeous places in High Wycombe giving us plenty to shout about too. The Rye has been described as the jewel in High Wycombe’s crown, and we couldn’t agree more.
We’re lucky to have such a beautiful open space in the middle of the town, as well as the picturesque Hughenden Park nearby.
Not to mention the pretty Library Gardens on the corner of the High Street and Queen Victoria Road – the flower displays are amazing to marvel at.
Another described Wycombe as a “place so dull and awful it cannot be said enough.”
Adding: “A town once known as a scenic marketplace is now just a mess.” The review is right about it being a scenic marketplace - and it still is.
The centre of town is filled with historic buildings you can marvel at, including the Little Market The town centre House, All Saints Parish Church and the Guildhall.
Aside from the breath-taking beauty of the Chilterns AONB that is just ripe for exploring, there’s also Wycombe Museum, Pann Mill, the Hell-Fire caves, Hughenden Manor and West Wycombe Park to name just a few of the great places for a day out.
Buckinghamshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Planning and Regeneration Peter Strachan said: “We are aware of this unscientific poll which contains some rather unpleasant and offensive content about many places in England.
“It’s disheartening to see negative comments about High Wycombe included, but we appreciate people are entitled to their opinion and to share it – although we obviously strongly disagree with some of these opinions.”
The survey, which is conducted annually, took a poll of 105,598 people, who voted where the top 50 worst places to live in the country were.
The council added: “In summary, we believe High Wycombe is a great place with an exciting future!”
