A DAD has shared details of his 'scary' two day stay at the Travelodge hotel in High Wycombe after a police incident left him and his son feeling frightened.

David Hutchins stayed with his son at the town centre Travelodge on Thursday, January 19 and Friday, January to attend his mother's funeral in Marlow.

The dad from Carlisle, Cumbria, paid £65 for both nights and said "staying in Marlow would have been double the price" so decided to opt for the budget option.

However, when Mr Hutchins arrived on Thursday night, he discovered their room was freezing cold and that the toilet wouldn't flush properly.

He said: "The room was freezing cold and the toilet water was still running in the bowl.

"This was going on all night and we didn’t get much sleep. When we told staff they came up and said there was a fault with the heating.

"Why they had the room available if there was no heating I have no clue.

"Then on Friday it was mum's funeral and we got back to Travelodge at 10pm and as soon as I settled in to go to sleep the room next to us outside the landing; there was a young woman in his 20s kicking the door down shouting 'let me in'.

"My son said he wanted to go out there and I told him not to. He was quite scared and we didn't have to put up with that."

He described details of how the incident unfolded...

"It’s terrible he could have had a knife", the 66-year-old said.

"I could have come up that lift and he could have turned on us. He was absolutely fuming, he was kicking the door in he was so angry, he was shouting abuse, all racial stuff which I'm not repeating but he could have been done for racism.

"My son was listening to it all going on. If it was an hour later, we could have been involved in that. The state he was he could have been drunk."

David, a sales representative, said the ordeal has left him never wanting to stay at Travelodge ever again.

He said: "I never will stay at Travelodge and never will again.

"If they had CCTV cameras on the floors that incident would have been dealt with in two two three minutes but it took nearly an hour before someone came up and police were there too."

"I asked for a refund back and the manager said they would phone me. I got an email back and the hotel said were having a lot of problems, we’ll get back to you.

"I'm annoyed as it's their attitude of not taking it seriously. One of the girls at the Travelodge at High Wycombe said 'give me your card details, I’ll do a refund'

"I'm not stupid, I'm not giving my details to any Tom, Dick or Harry. They need a wake up call."

Travelodge has refunded the money to David's account.

A spokesman from Travelodge said: "We would like to sincerely apologise to Mr Owens Hutchins for the regrettable incident that impacted his stay with us, the safety of our customers is of paramount importance.

"We have apologised to Mr Owens Hutchins, for his regrettable experience, refunded his booking in full and would like to offer to welcome him back to Travelodge very soon.”
