A LAW firm in Buckinghamshire has been closed by Solicitors Regulation Authority.

The law firm watchdog responsible for the regulation of more than 200,000 solicitors in England and Wales announced it has closed down a number of law firms as part of a crackdown on Metamorph Group, including Browns Solicitors (Buckinghamshire) Ltd.

The decision to shut down the group’s law firms in December and January was taken to “protect the interests of current and former clients,” the regulator said in a statement dated January 12.

Browns Solicitors had offices at Albert House on Queen Victoria Road in High Wycombe, and on Market Square in Aylesbury.

Clients were told they need to “find another lawyer,” the regulator said.

How are clients affected?

 

During the intervention, the regulator has visited 15 offices in the North West, Midlands and South to collect almost 1,600 boxes of live matters, and 61,000 boxes of wills, deeds and closed matters.

The Solicitors Regulation Authority said: “When we close down a firm, known as an intervention, we take control of all its client files and all money held by the firm. If you were a client of any of the firms listed above as closed and had an ongoing matter, they can no longer act for you and you will need to find another lawyer.”

The regulator has appointed Gordons LLP solicitors to handle ongoing matters.

Clients with money, legal documents or historical files held by the firm were told to claim it back from through the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

Two Metamorph Group law firms, Parrott & Coales LLP and Beeton Edwards LLP, remain open.
