Police are investigating a break-in to a coffee shop in High Wycombe where its cash box was stolen.

Tone Coffee Shop in the Desbox shopping centre was broken into in the middle of the night with an officer coming across a smashed window at around 1:30am on Friday (January 20) during a patrol.

After clearing the building the officer arranged for the window to be boarded up, with it not being realised the cash box had been stolen until the following morning.

The owner, Tone Thompson revealed that a week’s worth of cash was stolen during the break-in.

He said: “It’s really disappointing, you fear the worst that you are going to come in and everything is going to be upside down, smashed up and wrecked.

“But it wasn’t so that was kind of a blessing, my manager arrived first and said they’ve only taken the cash box so I thought that’s okay we can deal with that.

“So in that way, it wasn’t as bad as it could have been. Disappointing but more of an inconvenience rather than starting the business again.

“We have had a lot of customers in today to show their support. I wouldn’t say we are a pillar of the community but we have a good relationship with the community now having been here three years.”

A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said: “An officer saw a window had been smashed at Tone Coffee Shop in Desbox shopping centre on East Richardson Street, High Wycombe, at around 1.40am on Friday (20/1).

“The officer cleared the building but no one was inside and nothing appeared to have been taken so it was arranged to be boarded up.

“Then at around 9.40am, we received a report that cash had been stolen from the till at the coffee shop.

“Officers are investigating and anyone with information should call 101 or make a report on our website, quoting reference number 43230029332.”

The coffee shop reopened this morning and is set to host a live music night on Saturday evening, just one week after the break-in.
