A CAFE supporting young peoples’ employment skills was launched in Chesham today.

The Potting Shed Café opened to the public on January 19 at the Heritage House School on Cameron Road, a special school for pupils with severe learning needs.

Supported by cafe coach Dani Orchard, the 14 to 19-year-olds gain catering, front of house and other useful placement and employment skills.

Headteacher Jacqueline Clearkin said: “The learners are looking forward to serving customers and have practiced their skills ready for opening day.

“The homemade food from soups, lasagne, curry and sandwiches are snapped up by staff in school at lunch time and we are pleased to open to the public from today.”

A happy customer introducing himself as Jim, who visited today, said: “Lovely café ideal for the local people to have a nice warm space to have a drink and meet friends.”

Back in 2019, Good Morning Britain’s Alex Beresford opened it officially.

Groups can also hire out the cafe space, which boasts an interactive board connected to the internet.

The Potting Shed Café is open every Thursday during term time from 10am to 2pm.
