AN UNEVEN paving slab in the high street ‘could have been a danger’ to pedestrians, had they have not been fixed in time.

Paula Sims nearly tripped over an unkept walkway on Thursday, January 5, outside Mayther shop in Marlow.

The resident was mooching around the shops in the High Street when she stumbled upon the trip hazard.

She quickly warned residents on her local social media group about the uneven paving slab so people wouldn’t trip over it and hurt themselves.

She said: “I have seen to many people fall in Marlow and sadly it’s normally the elderly who as we know suffer worse injuries and recovery time.

"Outside the Mayther shop is a paving slab that is very much sticking up and wobbly, I went into the shop who were super helpful and also very concerned and came outside to take pictures with me.

"I could not carry on my day not having done something about it and making people aware of it as I have seen many people fall due to dodgy pavements including my mother and have really nasty injuries due to it.”

Paula also contacted Marlow Town Council and reported the incident on Fix My Street.

How does FixMyStreet work?

Residents can report issues that need repairing on the councils reporting website.

All you have to do is type in a postcode or let the site locate you automatically and describe your problem.

According to Buckinghamshire Council, 722 issues have been fixed in the past month - from potholes, abandoned vehicles to overhanging trees and litter.

Luckily for residents in the town, they don’t have to worry any more as the paving slab has since been repaired but Paula wanted to highlight how great the Marlow community are in helping one another.

She said: “I just loved how everyone from the shop side to people in the town and the Marlow Facebook site worked together to get it done and how quickly the council came out and repaired it.

"I would just like to say a huge thank you to Mayther for their support and for updating me and a huge thank you to everyone on here that came forward with their support.

“I went though the website Fix My Street and it just goes to show it’s not always a bad ending!”

Cabinet Member for Transport Steven Broadbent said: “All incidents reported via Fix My Street are investigated and prioritised in line with our Highways Safety Inspection Policy.

"In this case the misaligned paving slab presented a clear safety hazard and so was given top priority and technicians were able to fix it quickly to avoid any danger to pedestrians.

“We would like to thank the member of the public who reported this incident and would remind anyone who spots any similar issues that the best and quickest way to bring it to our attention is via the Fix My Street form on our website – www.buckinghamshire.gov.uk/fix-my-street."
