Train strikes are due to resume today, as industrial action causes a severely reduced service across the network.

Here are the local services impacted by the January 2023 strikes.

National Rail has set out the affected days this week, with strikes ending on Sunday, January 8.

The service advise for passengers to expect: "Significant disruption across the rail network.

"Trains will be busier and likely to start later and finish earlier, and there will be no services at all in some places.

"If you are travelling, please plan ahead and check your first and last train times."

Strikes lasting up to 48 hours will affect the network nationally on the following dates:

Tuesday, January 3, and Wednesday, January 4, - action by the RMT union.

Thursday, January 5, 2023 - action by the ASLEF union.

Friday, January 6, and Saturday, January 7 - action by the RMT union.

Services may also start later on days following the end of the strike action.

Chiltern Railways

The rail service provider has set out the 'very limited' timetable as per below:

  • 1 train per hour Marylebone - stations to Oxford Parkway (and vice-versa).
  • 1 train per hour Marylebone - stations to Banbury (and vice versa).
  • 1 train per hour Marylebone - stations to Aylesbury (via High Wycombe, and vice-versa).
  • 1 train per hour Aylesbury Vale Parkway - stations to Amersham (and vice-versa).

It added: 

  • There will be NO Chiltern Railways service North of Banbury, nor to/from Oxford.
  • Start of service will generally be between 08.00 and 09.00 (see below).
  • End of service will generally be between 16.00 and 17.00 (see below).

Chiltern Railways High Wycombe-line tickets will be accepted for travel on the following London Undergound services:

  • Metropolitan Line: Baker Street - stations to Hillingdon and Amersham.
  • Central Line: Oxford Circus - Northolt - South Ruislip - West Ruislip.

Great Western Railway

The train company has set out an 'extremely limited service' over the next week.

Tuesday, January 3 and Wednesday, January 4 will see services start at 7:30am and customers must complete their journeys before 18:30.

A very limited service will run from local stations such as:

Reading and Didcot Parkway

Slough and Windsor

Maidenhead and Marlow

Twyford and Henley

Reading and Basingstoke

On Thursday, January 5, 2023 services in the 7:30am to 18:30pm operating period are further reduced with only major services from Reading taking place.

January 6 and 7 will see the same level of service as the beginning of the week, with limited service operating between 7:30am to 18:30pm running from local stations such as:

Reading and Didcot Parkway

Slough and Windsor

Maidenhead and Marlow

Twyford and Henley

Reading and Basingstoke

On Sunday, January 8, 2023, trains will continue to be disrupted.

There will be a reduced level of service throughout the day; a later start to services in the morning and some late-night services may be cancelled.

Great Western Railway says: "Avoid travelling and seek alternative ways to make your journey.

"If you are intending to travel on these routes, please only do so if absolutely necessary. Trains that are operating will be extremely busy."
