A Buckinghamshire bus company announced a new price cap taking effect in the new year.
Carousel Buses announced its plans to cap single fare tickets on almost all Buckinghamshire services.
Carousel single fares will be capped at £2 on bus journeys between January 1 to March 31 2023, including the on-demand service PickMeUp in High Wycombe.
The move is designed to help passengers with the cost of living crisis after the government’s £60 million ‘Help for Households’ scheme was announced to help passengers through the companies like the Go-Ahead Group, which owns Carousel.
Carousel Buses interim managing director Luke Marion said: “Bus travel remains fantastic value for money and this generous initiative makes it even more attractive.
“We know it is a challenging time for many currently and this three-month offer will help people at a crucial time. We hope it encourages many people to give our bus services a try and I’d encourage people to visit our website for the full details.”
Many bus passengers were “feeling the punch this winter as household bills mount,” Go-Ahead’s managing director Martin Dean said.
He added: “So, we’re proud that all our UK bus companies are supporting this government initiative to help people with their travel costs.
“Under this special fare, you’ll be able to go further than ever for £2. We hope it will encourage people to try some new routes, have some adventures and to explore the freedom of travelling by bus.”
The government’s Buses Minister Richard Holden said bus travel remained “the most popular form of public transport in England.”
The scheme is set to take two million car journeys off the road, he predicted.
Some services like the airline service and school day only route 5 and B12 will not be capped.
Passengers can get the £2 fare through the smartphone app, from drivers or the Freeflow tap on and off in buses.
