A BAFTA winning actor led the annual Christmas celebrations on a historical Buckinghamshire town's High Street.
Crowds gathered on Amersham Old Town High Street on Friday December 2 to get in the festive spirit with carols, music, shopping, Santa’s Grotto and its reindeers, and the Market Square skating rink.
The award-winning actor Robert Lindsay, best known for his TV roles in Citizen Smith and My Family, switched on the Christmas lights with Chesham and Amersham MP Sarah Green.
The Old Amersham Business Association, who organised the festive event, commented: “The old town was once again awash with joy and laughter for this much-loved traditional evening, held in support of the Scannappeal charity, to raise funds for their current appeals to provide scanners and medical equipment for our local NHS hospitals.
“In addition to those already mentioned, the Old Amersham Business Association should like to thank the following, whose kind and generous sponsorship made the evening possible, Old Amersham Hotels, Halma plc, Dibbo Ltd, The Entertainer, Tesco Amersham and Maximon Solutions.”
To ensure a magical night to remember, Reverend of St Mary’s Church Jonny Rapson led the St Mary’s School children in carol singing accompanied by the Amersham Band providing tunes around the Christmas tree. A team of designers at Su Chases Interiors had decorated the tree for the occasion.

Visitors were delighted with more music by Dr Challoner’s High School choir, Amersham Rock Choir, Chalfont Wind Band, Amersham Acapella, South Bucks Choral Society and the Knights of Harmony, while shoppers enjoyed the late opening hours of the independent boutiques.
The arches underneath the Market Hall hosted Santa and his reindeer to the delight of young visitors.
