A solar-powered compacting bin has been installed in Higginson Park.
The bin has been placed in the popular park by the council on a trial basis.
The solar-powered bin reads a waste bin's fill level in real-time and triggers an automatic compaction of the waste, increasing the bin's capacity.
The compaction mechanism runs on a battery, which is charged by the solar panel.
Solar-powered compacting bins are typically connected to a remote software platform in which waste collection managers can access information on how full the bin is.
Litter picking group, Marlow Wombles posted on social media: "Great just what was needed to help with the litter problem.
"Hopefully more to come."
