Buckinghamshire's main hospital has warned that its emergency department is "extremely busy".
Posting on social media on Thursday, Stoke Mandeville Hospital is urging people to only attend in an emergency so staff can help those most in need.
The Trust urged people to help ease the pressure on the NHS by choosing the right service for their condition.
The advise is to call 111 first or speak to a GP or pharmacist first before considering heading to hospital.
Karren Bonner, chief nurse at Buckinghamshire Council Healthcare, said: "We're experiencing a high demand from our emergency department. I ask that you consider before you come here to to ensure that we can keep the A&E free for life threatening emergencies and those needing urgent treatment.
"If you are unsure please call 111 or go online or alternatively use your GP or pharmacy thank you for your help in this busy time and please be kind to our colleagues who are out there doing their best."
