BUCKINGHAMSHIRE has been blessed with many brilliant pubs over the years.

Sadly, many of these establishments have closed down and didn't survive.

The BFP decided to ask its readers if they could bring back one pub which one would it be.

We were inundated with responses on our Facebook page 1,300 people commenting on our post.

The Iron Horse was originally the Station Hotel and was one of the first developments in Amersham on the Hill following the arrival of the railway in 1892.

With the opening of Amersham station, the licence was transferred to the Station Hotel from the old Black Horse pub, which then closed.

In April 2004 the pub was suddenly closed. Shortly afterwards following a planning appeal it was demolished to make way for flats and a cafe.

One person described the pub as a "portal to another dimension."

The Derehams Inn

The pub closed in July 2021 after Graham Frederick Sturgess, who was at the heart of the community along with his wife Maggie for decades when they ran a string of pubs including the Rose and Crown in Wooburn Green and the Derehams Inn in Loudwater, died at home on Mother’s Day, March 27, aged 71.

He had been diagnosed with lung cancer on December 16, 2020, just weeks after landlady Maggie collapsed in the car park of Stoke Mandeville Hospital, suffering a stroke, and died on December 1. She was 61.

The couple bought the Derehams Inn as a free house in 1998.
