A speeding driver has been caught travelling at nearly 90mph in a 30mph zone.
The driver, who was speeding at 87mph, recorded the fastest speed in a 30mph zone in Buckinghamshire when a speed camera flashed them in High Wycombe.
Figures obtained through a freedom of information Act request shows that the highest speed captured by the mobile speed camera positioned on the A40 West Wycombe road was nearly triple the 30mph limit.
The 87mph figure was the highest speed recorded by any of the county’s 11 most prolific cameras positioned in 30mph zones in the 12 ending September 2021.
Reaching speeds above 80mph is dangerous even on the motorway - but can be particularly risky on 30mph roads that are often not suited for high-speed travel.
Dangerous driver Christopher Mattin was described as a “lunatic” after he was involved in a fatal crash in Buckingham that resulted in the death of his girlfriend, Sarah Jacobs.
Mattin, 34, of Dairy Grounds, Kings Sutton, had reached speeds of up to 91mph on a 30mph stretch of Stowe Avenue when he lost control and crashed into a tree.
He was jailed for 10 years and six months as a result.

A total of 1,092 speeding drivers were caught out by the camera in West Wycombe Road between October 1, 2020 and September 30, 2021.
Further down the road, on the other side of the town centre, 1,751 drivers were caught out by the A40 London Road speed camera.
On that stretch of the main road, the highest recorded speed was 79mph.
