A speed camera in Buckinghamshire caught an average of more than nine drivers a day breaking the 30mph speed limit.

The camera on Station Road, in Amersham, captured a total of 3,510 speeding drivers in the 12 months to the end of September 2021.

This was the most speedsters caught in a single location in Bucks over that period – but there were plenty of other cameras that ran it close, with the next most prolific seeing 3,381 drivers breaking the 40mph limit on the A412 in Wexham.

In a one-year period, the county’s 15 most prolific speed cameras caught 23,696 drivers breaking the limit.

The figures, obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request, show that only five of the 15 most-triggered cameras are fixed. The other 10 are mobile, meaning they are not permanently in position.

The highest speed recorded by any camera in the one-year period was 134mph on the M40 in northwest Bucks – nearly double the 70mph speed limit.

The top speed recorded in a 30mph zone was 87mph on the West Wycombe Road.
