An incredible £10,000 was raised at the recent Beaconsfield Artisans Golf Club centenary day in Seer Green.

Taking place on Saturday, September 10, it was agreed by the club and its guests that the day of celebration would go ahead despite the passing of Her late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, who died at the age of 96 just two days prior.

Those who attended were able to grieve the loss over the longest-serving British Monarch, as a minute’s silence was held at the beginning of the day, and again before the evening meal.

With the club flag at half-mast, around 90 golfers and volunteers took part in what has been described as a ‘respectful and friendly atmosphere.’

As well as current and former artisan members, guests from other local artisan clubs in Harewood Downs, Denham, Temple, Ashridge, Maidenhead and Flackwell Heath, were invited.

Some of those names included prominent figures from the parent establishment, as Beaconsfield Golf Club’s president in Simon Dodd, secretary Katie Free, and captains in Nick Cray and Sue Schmidt also attended

Additionally, present were playworkers from the Thames Valley Adventure Playground in Taplow who provided refreshments at the 11th hole.

Throughout the year, raffles and other events have been held by BAGC [Beaconsfield Artisans Golf Club] that have raised more than £6,000 for the charity.

Lucie Grange, who is from the non-profit organisation, said: “We are very grateful to the Beaconsfield Artisans for all of their fundraising efforts, and how appropriate that this money will be specifically used to revamp our crazy golf area that is enjoyed by both children and adults throughout Bucks with special needs.”

A further £4,000 has also been raised for Macmillan Cancer Support this year.

Steve Reed, BAGC 2022 Club Captain and Honorary Secretary said: “We owe everyone at our parent club a huge debt of thanks for allowing us to celebrate this landmark anniversary.

“Without their goodwill, generosity, and co-operation, none of this would have been possible.

I am also grateful to my hard-working committee, and our sponsors, who have helped raise a record figure for our two deserving charities.

“We will continue to support those, and others, in what we hope will be the beginning of another wonderful hundred years”
