MANAGERS from the forthcoming House of Fraser store in the Eden centre took a break from pre-opening preparations to transform an outdated room in a children's nursery into a colourful garden paradise.
The team of 15 newly-recruited managers were given a Changing Rooms style challenge on Tuesday morning to makeover the quiet room at Bowerdean Nursery in Gordon Road, High Wycombe.
Armed with paintbrushes and a supply of tea and biscuits, they spent two days transforming the room from a patchwork of dull orange and yellow walls into a make-believe garden, complete with painted trees, flowers, insects and even Fido the dog in his fireplace kennel.
The nursery school responded to an offer by House of Fraser to do good deeds for community facilities across High Wycombe.
Dawn Beesley, secretary and bursar at the nursery, said: "It was really in need of a makeover so we wrote a begging letter. It was last decorated seven years ago and it had got a bit dreary, but we're a small Government-funded nursery and we don't have much money. Something like this is a dream come true for us - we would never have been able to afford it."
Jillian Staniforth, store manager, said: "We really felt we could make a difference here. We really like the atmosphere here - it's really friendly and there is a real mix of children.
"It's important to us that we are part of the community and this is just the start. Once we open it will be about keeping opportunities like this going."
