A MAN on a stag weekend in Latvia died from a condition that stopped him breathing, an inquest heard today.

Julian Budd, 33, died from epiglottitis, an acute infection of the epiglottis flap in the throat, in Riga, Latvia.

Budd, of School Close, High Wycombe, complained of feeling unwell after setting off for the trip on August 31.

Friend Andy Pieroux told Amersham Coroners Court: He was off colour and at the end of the flight he said he was feeling a bit worse.

I certainly wasn't concerned just a bit sad he wasn't on top form. It just seemed like a cold.' The next morning Budd went to a hospital to see a doctor and was given antibiotics.

His condition improved during the day but Budd stayed in while the stag party went for a meal in the evening.

At about 10.30pm he texted Mr Pieroux to tell him his condition was worsening.

He was taken to hospital. Doctors attempted a tracheotomy - where the throat is cut into to provide air - but Budd died of respiratory arrest.

He could not get enough oxygen and this caused his heart to fail, the inquest was told.

At the hearing his family expressed concerns the tablets he took hadn't been properly analysed and could have been a cause of death.

Coroner Richard Hulett said he regretted that he had not received any test results on the tablets. He recorded a verdict of death by natural causes
