Gerrards Cross Parish Council have hit out plans to expand Heathrow airport.

Members said they "strongly disagree" with the plans for a third runway and a sixth terminal.

In its official response to a consultation on the plans they said air quality, noise and congestion would be unacceptable.

To bring noise down would require quieter aircraft which is "outside the Government's control" said chairman Peter Chapman.

And it said it expected "no overall improvement in air quality" despite Government claims that cars of the future will be cleaner.

He said: "Gerrards Cross Parish Council urges the Government to accept that Heathrow is big enough with Terminal 5."

It must "look at aviation's needs over the next 20 to 30 years using an airport which is not surrounded by dense housing and which is connected to high-speed rail lines".
