Parents in High Wycombe are among top ten worst off in UK amid pricey children’s sport clubs, research revealed.
Wycombe sport clubs for children this summer ranked among one of the most expensive in the country after a study of more than 4,000 club listings by insurance provider Protectivity.
High Wycombe took the fourth spot as the average cost of one club session was around £94.
Wycombe costs were only beaten by Oxford as third most expensive (£116), followed by Stoke on Trent second place (£128). Luton was the most expensive with an average cost of £129 per one session.

Slough, on the other hand, ranked as the fifth most affordable as the average cost of a child’s club session was around £9.
Sean Walsh, Marketing Manager at Protectivity said: “Our research has revealed that 92 percent of children aged 5-16 have taken part in a sport within the last week, highlighting the importance of having kids clubs, sport-based or not, available to keep children active and occupied throughout the summer.
“We know that costs for looking after children add up quickly, so we wanted to showcase those areas that are the most affordable to take your child to, as the cost of living crisis continues to affect us all.”
For a child attending one weekly session in High Wycombe, the total cost for the entire summer was £566 for parents and guardians, the study said.
This means that Wycombe parents - where the six-week average household income after tax is £2,898 – spend around 19 percent of their monthly salary on sport clubs.
Only 38 percent of children from lower affluent families are taking part in physical activity daily, while 45 percent of children from medium affluence and 53 percent of high affluence families took part in physical activity daily in 2019/20, figures from Sport England show.
