A MAN had to be cut out of his car after it smashed into the front of a house this morning.

Two fire crews from High Wycombe spent more than an hour cutting him out of the Ford Mondeo by removing the roof and cutting round the pedals and steering wheel.

Firefighters were called to the detached house in Totteridge Road at 1.40am along with the police and paramedics, and spent an hour and 15 minutes freeing the driver.

Steve Hawkins, watch manager at High Wycombe fire station, said the car's engine compartment had been pushed back onto the man, pinning him inside the car.

"It had gone in front ways but he'd basically caught the front side of the house on the driver's side front, and basically pushed the car back onto him," he added.

Building inspectors were also called out as it was feared the structural damage to the house could have made it unsafe.

But after an inspection the residents were told they could stay inside.

A police cordon has been set up around the porch of the house.

The driver was taken to Stoke Mandeville Hospital by ambulance crews but the extent of his injuries is not yet known.
