A 'SCAMNESTY' is taking place in Thame Town Hall, in a bid to tackle the problem of direct mail fraudsters.
As part of a national campaign, members of the public are being asked to drop off any potential scam mailings that have come through their door. They can be left in specially designated bins at the Town Hall in or forwarded on to Trading Standards.
Elderly and vulnerable people are the most likely victims for mass marketed con tricks, which can include scams like bogus lotteries, deceptive prize draws and other dodgy get-rich-quick schemes.
Research shows that less than five per cent of victims actually report these kinds of scam to the authorities, who are keen to see this figure rise.
The mail items can be dropped off at the Thame Information Centre in the Town Hall until February 27.
