AN expansion of Beaconsfield train station will free up spaces outside nearby residents' homes, a rail boss has said.

And the extra deck at Penn Road station will not see a "significant increase in noise" according to Chiltern Railways.

The pledges were made in a letter to Beaconsfield Town Council which raised concerns about extra noise and lighting when the development is complete.

Loraine Organ, the operator's head of procurement and project delivery, said: "Having received complaints from local residents about on street parking in the area we hope that the increased car park capacity will reduce traffic in those residential areas and with it the associated noise."

Yet she added: "Although we don't anticipate a significant increase in noise new do recognise there will be an increase in traffic movement at peak travel times."

However, the extra spaces would cut back on the number of cars which enter the car park, find a space and then leave, she said.

She said: "We are engaging a noise consultant to help us consider the impact of increased vehicle movements to and from the station."

But she said she "can't promise" extra trees and foliage to screen the noise although this was being considered.

Lighting was "under review" she said and the firm would fit shields to either side of existing lights.

As many as 150 spaces will not be available during March while work takes place.

Replacement park and ride buses are running during the week to April 11 from the Royal Standard of England pub in Forty Green.

A total of 130 spaces are being provided at the pub and buses are running at 15 minute intervals starting at 0602 until the 0010 arrival.

Buses also drop off and pick up from the bus stop outside Waitrose.
