A CAMPAIGN is being launched to point out the warning signs of being in an abusive relationship.

With Valentines Day just around the corner, domestic abuse charities are hoping to raise awarness of abusive relationships and to point out the warning signs.

Many abusive relationships are a pattern of physical, emotional, sexual and verbal abuse that escalate over time - often without people even realising.

Police say that for many people in Bucks, Valentines Day is just another day of abuse.

Det Insp Sharon Hill, of the Buckinghamshire Public Protection Unit, said: "Those experiencing physical violence often recognise this as domestic abuse, but when it is psychological abuse, many do not identify what is happening to them and so don't know or feel they can ask for help.

"It's more difficult because there are no bruises or injuries on show.

"Domestic abuse is a serious crime and anyone who is suspected of committing it - whether it is physical or emotional - is liable for arrest."

Denise Edmonds from Aylesbury Women's Aid said: "The campagin linking into Valentine's Day aims to raise public awareness of domestic abuse, and of the need for everyone to act now to put a stop to it.

"Love, and relationships, should be based on equality and respect, not violence and abuse."
