THE link road between the M40 and the M25 will be closed from tonight until Sunday morning.

The M40 eastbound from junction 1a to junction 16 of the M25 will shut from 10pm to 11am on Sunday.

It is the fourth closure to carry out "junction improvements" the Highways Agency said.

The work is part of a £1.3m scheme to "improve safety and reduce congestion" at Junction 1a an agency statement said..

The work will widen, repair and resurface the link road, weather permitting.

Improvements to lighting and overhead gantry signs will also be made.

Highways Agency Project Sponsor, Darren Rhoden, said: "We thank drivers for their patience and cooperation during previous closures.

"We strongly advise drivers to plan their journeys before leaving home and allow extra time for their journeys while these works are ongoing.

The agency has recommended drivers joining the M40 after junction 9 should leave at junction 4, Handy Cross, and use the A404 and A404(M) to the M4 and back towards the M25.

All other slip roads at the M40/M25 Interchange will be open as normal.
