ONE of the defendants accused of murdering taxi driver Mohammed Mahroof handed himself in to police telling officers: "I have really f***ed up my life now", a court heard.

Prosecutor Christopher Donnellan told the court Mohammed Mahroof Mustafa, 21, called police saying he wanted to hand himself in at around 11.20pm on Tuesday, May 8 last year.

PC Sean Astley told Reading Crown Court he and a colleague responded to Mustafa's call and arrested him in Mentmore Road with blood stains still on his hands and wrists.

PC Astley told him he was being arrested for murder to which Mustafa replied: "Oh it's murder now", the court heard.

"He was quite matter-of-fact, quite rational about it," PC Astley added.

The constable then asked Mustafa if he had any knives on him and Mustafa replied: "No, it was still in him", he told the court.

Mustafa was taken to High Wycombe police station where he made more comments to officers.

PC Astley told the court: "He said 'Do you know if anyone found my black and white jacket? I left it there when I ran off'."

PC Astley said he noted Mustafa's comments in his notebook and gave him an opportunity to look at them so he could correct or add to them.

He told the court Mustafa counter-signed each of them to say they were correct.

But Anthony Evans QC, defending Mustafa, argued this point with the PC and suggested his client had not been shown the comments but rather had them read out to him and then been asked to sign them.

He also suggested Mustafa's earlier comment was "Is it murder?" rather than "It's murder now".

Asif Ahram Mohammed gave his details to officers at the scene of the stabbing after it was cordoned off, but told them he had not seen anything when asked.

He was arrested the following day at his home in Roberts Road.
